Every child deserves the chance to reach their full potential, regardless of any additional requirements they may have. At the heart of what we do is a belief in inclusive education – every child is unique and has different strengths, challenges and needs. Our approach is centred around removing barriers to learning and promoting access, inclusion and independence.
A dedicated and supportive team
Our school has an experienced and dedicated team of staff who work tirelessly to ensure that all children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) receive the support they need to succeed. Our Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) works with teachers, parents, carers and external agencies to ensure that each child receives the appropriate support to meet their needs. We work closely with parents and other professionals to identify and address any concerns as early as possible.
Extensive support services
We provide a range of support for children with SEND, including in-class assistance, small group work and one-to-one interventions. We use a series of approaches and resources to meet the needs of each child, and we can help parents and carers find external professionals, such as speech and language therapists and educational psychologists.
Our provision also includes our specialised Nurture Base. The base supports students who may need additional emotional and social support when transitioning to secondary school, and is open throughout the day.
A focus on wellbeing
Our school has a strong focus on pastoral care and wellbeing – a child’s emotional wellbeing is key to their success in education. We provide a range of support services to help children manage their emotions and build resilience. Our pastoral team works closely with parents and external agencies to ensure that children receive the support they need to thrive both academically and emotionally.
A collaborative approach
At Bishop Perowne, we also recognise the importance of involving parents and carers in their child’s education. We encourage parents to be actively involved in the learning journey and provide regular opportunities for parents to meet with teachers and discuss their child’s progress.
Extensive enrichment programme
In addition to our SEND support, we also provide a range of enrichment activities to help all students develop their interests and talents outside of the classroom. We have an extensive programme of extracurricular activities, including sports, music, drama, STEM clubs and art. These activities help to develop children’s confidence, social skills and self-esteem.
We are committed to providing high-quality support to ensure that every child thrives. We believe that all children have the ability to succeed with the right assistance, and we are dedicated to providing individualised help to meet the needs of each child. We are proud of the safe, nurturing and inclusive environment we have created at our school, where every child is valued and encouraged to reach their full potential.
If you are a parent or carer of a child with additional requirements, we would love to hear from you and discuss how we can support your child’s learning.
