Who Qualifies for Free School Meals?
Free School Meals can be awarded if you or your partner are claiming any of:
- Universal Credit provided they have an annual net earned income not exceeding £7,400 (616.67 per month)
- Income Support
- Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- Support under Part 6 of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- The guarantee element of Pension Credit
- Child Tax Credit, provided they are not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190, as assessed by HMRC
- Working Tax Credit run-on-paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
I might qualify, but I don't need the help with meals?
If you are eligible then applying for Free School Meals will still help your child, even if they choose not to use their daily meal allowance. For each student who is registered for Free School Meals the school receives a payment, called Pupil Premium, which is additional funding used to support your child in school.
How do I apply for Free School Meals?
The County Council have an online Free School Meals Application Form you should complete. We can also provide paper copies, or assist with completing the form.
How does my child "pay" for meals in school?
We operate a cashless catering system, and there are no vouchers. Before every lunchtime a student in receipt of Free School Meals has an allowance added for the day which will pay for a meal with dessert. Students just scan their finger in the canteen.
I have moved to Worcestershire from another Local Authority
If your child was previously at a school in another Local Authority you will need to re-apply for Free School Meals through the Worcestershire Council Website.
