Early Career Teaching
Bishop Perowne offers a bespoke school-based ECT induction programme, under the supervision of Haybridge Teaching Alliance. The programme incorporates the academic content provided by the Education Development Trust, but being school-based has allowed us to be more flexible in shaping our full provision to best suit our ECT cohort and our pupils.
The programme ensures that ECTs at Bishop Perowne receive the highest quality CPD and support that is fully aligned with their needs. Mentors make use of customised materials to enable reflective conversations to drive forward teacher progression. We employ a wide range of interactive training and coaching approaches to encourage our ECTs to be creative, to think outside the box and to try new pedagogical methods.
What the programme looks like
- You will be allocated a subject-based mentor who works with you across both years of your induction
- You will take part in weekly mentoring sessions, protected in your timetable
- There will be a 10% reduction in teaching load in year 1, 5% reduction in year 2
- You will attend weekly CPD sessions, led by expert practitioners and designed to support you in making rapid progression in your classroom practice
- You will have half-termly observations by a Professional Mentor
- You will have frequent opportunities to observe colleagues, both in your department and across the school
