Intent
Our Creative iMedia curriculum is designed to inspire, challenge and equip learners with the practical and creative skills needed to thrive in the modern digital media industry.
Through hands-on experience with industry-standard tools, students learn how media products are planned, designed and created, gaining insight into the professional processes behind graphics, animation, video and interactive media.
The curriculum develops strong digital literacy through key concepts such as pre-production planning, visual communication and iterative design. Students are encouraged to develop problem-solving, critical thinking and creativity by responding to real-world scenarios and client briefs.
Alongside technical proficiency, students also develop important transferable skills, including communication, teamwork and organisation, preparing them to work effectively in creative environments.
Ultimately, Creative iMedia aims to open pathways into further study and careers within the digital creative sector, helping students become confident producers of media rather than simply consumers in an increasingly digital world.
Key Stage 4
In Creative iMedia, students are immersed in the world of digital creativity and challenged to produce work that reflects current industry roles and practices.
Through a blend of theoretical understanding and practical application, students learn to analyse client briefs, justify their creative choices using recognised design conventions, and produce purposeful, professional media products.
Students regularly develop their skills using industry-standard software and gain a clear understanding of established media production processes. This helps them become confident, independent and competent creative practitioners, with the skills needed to progress into a wide range of media-related pathways.
Our aim is to develop innovative, analytical and resilient problem-solvers with a broad range of transferable skills that will support their learning, future careers and wider lives.

Assessment & Lessons
The OCR Cambridge National in Creative iMedia (J834) is assessed through two Non-Examined Assessment (NEA)units, worth 25% and 35%, and a written examination worth 40%.
Creative iMedia is graded from Level 1 Pass to Distinction and Level 2 Pass to Distinction*, with Level 2 representing GCSE-standard achievement.
Formative assessment is embedded throughout lessons through questioning, ‘show me’ boards, live feedback, modelling and review of practical work. Students are also encouraged to reflect on their work and respond to industry-style briefs.
R093 – Creative iMedia in the Media Industry (40%)
A mandatory 1 hour 30 minute written examination taken at the end of Year 11. Students study the media industry, job roles, clients and audiences, planning, legal and ethical considerations, and media codes and conventions.
R094 – Visual Identity and Digital Graphics (25%)
A mandatory NEA unit in which students design and create a visual identity and digital graphic product in response to a client brief.
R097 – Interactive Digital Media (35%)
The second NEA unit, in which students plan, create, test and review an interactive digital media product, such as a website, mobile app, e-learning product or digital map.
Enrichment & Co-curricular
We firmly believe that education should extend beyond the classroom. Students are encouraged to take part in a range of computing and creative media opportunities across Key Stages 3 and 4, helping to enrich their learning and broaden their awareness of future pathways.
Opportunities include:
KS3 clubs, such as Girls Coding Club
Guest speakers and activities led by industry professionals
Collaboration with local organisations, including The University of Worcester, enabling students to engage with real media environments such as theatrical stages and recording studios
Involvement in in-house and co-curricular creative opportunities, such as design competitions
These experiences help students develop confidence, creativity and a stronger understanding of the digital and creative industries.
