Key Stages 3 & 4
Holistic Development
We focus on the holistic development of every student through the following pillars:
- Physical Development: Progressing from basic to complex skills and improving physical fitness.
- Cognitive Skills: Applying effective techniques, strategies, and decision-making in a range of activities.
- Social Development: Enhancing leadership, communication, and teamwork through collaborative learning.
- Emotional Growth: Learning to manage emotions, embrace success and failure, and support others.
Curriculum
At Bishop Perowne CE College, we recognise the vital role that Physical Education (PE) plays in promoting lifelong health and well-being. Our aim is to deliver a high-quality PE curriculum that positively impacts students’ physical, mental, and social health, equipping them with the skills and values necessary to lead active and fulfilling lives.
We are committed to providing every student with opportunities to participate not only as athletes, but also in leadership roles such as coaches, officials, and choreographers. Our vision is for all students to achieve their full potential and to develop a love for physical activity that extends well beyond their time at school.
Through engaging, inclusive, and challenging PE lessons, we aim to inspire all students to appreciate the benefits of a healthy, active lifestyle. Our curriculum also fosters the development of essential life skills and core values, including resilience, mutual respect, and teamwork.
We offer a rich extra-curricular programme that promotes both social and competitive participation, with opportunities to represent the school at local, regional, and national levels.

Assessment & Lessons
Assessment in core PE is continuous and built around the four pillars of physical literacy. Each unit of work includes sport-specific skills assessed against overarching objectives based on these pillars.
As students progress through school, the complexity of assessment increases to appropriately challenge and support their development and potential.
Enrichment & Co-curricular
The PE department offers an extensive extra-curricular programme throughout the academic year:
- Lunchtime Activities: Inclusive, non-competitive sessions linked to seasonal sports, encouraging broad participation.
- After-School Training and Fixtures: Regular team practices and competitive fixtures across multiple sports.
- Community Involvement: Leadership programmes supporting primary schools and local sports events.
- Annual Sports Day: A celebration of excellence and participation in athletics, promoting both competition and inclusion.
This year, Bishop Perowne students have represented the school in a wide range of sports, including:
Football, Netball, Cricket, Basketball, Badminton, Rugby, Table Tennis, Swimming, Cross Country, Athletics, Trampolining, Rounders, and Fitness Training.
Our students have achieved notable success, winning Worcestershire leagues and festivals in several disciplines.

Sporting Highlights
- Attendance at national events such as the All England Badminton Championships and a Lionesses match at Ashton Gate.
- Residential sports tour to Condover Hall.
- Visits to professional venues such as Worcestershire County Cricket Club.
Our inclusive approach ensures that all students—from first-time participants to county champions—have the opportunity to flourish. We are proud of the high levels of engagement and achievement across all areas of the PE curriculum.
